This is a long one, so buckle up. A wintry walk in the Upper Midwest. My favorite time of year. What I've been up to: Stories: Since September, I've had another story published! This is my 4th and final one of 2024, and it took 2nd place in the contest that I wrote it for: "Two Earthlings" - TL;DR Press 1K Word Herd Competition Anthology Awards (sort of): Two of my 2024 stories are awards eligible and are on the Nebula Reading List for SFWA members! "Proprietary Technology" "Two Earthlings"...

What I've been up to: I had 3 short stories come out in September! All 3 were released in the span of a week, so I'm still catching up on all the marketing for them. One was a complete surprise, too! "Proprietary Technology" - This story about a man who falls behind on his memory payments appears in Issue 8 of Radon Journal. "Safe Harbor" - This story about what happens when being stranded on a remote planet is preferable to rescue won second place in a Writer's Workout event earlier this...

What I've been up to: I completed the Writer's Workout, a 6-week-long writing competition where you are given a prompt on a Friday, and you have 72 hours to write a short story based on the prompt. All entries are given feedback by a panel of judges, and it's an excellent way to rapidly strengthen your short story game. One of my stories took second place, and another got an honorable mention. Now that the competition is over, it's back to working on all of my other original projects! And...

What I've been up to: Still figuring out this whole newsletter thing! As you can see, design is not my forte, and I'm not even going to pretend that it is. It's early days, so the handful of you who are subscribed to this can put up with a text-heavy newsletter with few images and no video. After all, you all already know how much I hate those things :) Here's a picture, though: I was lucky enough to spend Memorial Day weekend in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. This was the view from the...

Happy Valentine's Day! Each Valentine's Day, I like to highlight "Ages of Man", a short story I had published some years ago. It first appeared in Underbelly Magazine in 2019, and then was later adapted for podcast by Pseudopod. Pseudopod released the episode on Valentine's Day 2020, so this story is forever cemented in my brain as my one romance story. (It is not a romance story.) "Ages of Man" is a horror story about an android building himself the perfect human. You can read the text...

2023: A Summary The majority of 2023 was spent focusing on novels and novellas, rather than writing and submitting short stories. I only had one short story published last year, which you can read below. It's available for free on the website of the Blackwick Writers Guild, a writing group that is local to Denver. (In the interest of full disclosure, I am a co-founder of this writing group! If you are a writer in the Denver area looking for a group of fellow creatives, please feel free to...
